Hello friends and welcome to the homestead! I am thrilled to have you here to share our adventure with. I am Crystal, your resident homestead blogger. It has always been a dream of mine to live a rural life where I can grow my own vegetables and have livestock. A life where I can cultivate a more traditional way of living for myself and my family. Unfortunately, I have always been a resident of the urban setting. With so many rules and regulations I was limited on what I could do outside. Raised vegetable gardens and chicken-less backyards were where my homesteading dreams ended. That was until 2020. Yes, the year of COVID-19! Eric, my wonderful partner, and I had plans of looking for a house in the next couple years it just wasn't in the cards at the time given the current state of affairs with the world. I was temporarily off work due to the virus and financials were tight.

In August the house of our dreams manifested itself and we took it as a sign. So much that we had to sit down and reevaluate what we could manage financially. With what we discovered it made us take the leap and we set up a viewing. As soon as I stepped foot in the house on August 4, 2020 I felt it, the house was meant to be our home. The realtor laughed at me when my response to "there is an accepted offer already" was "Its going to fall through, this is meant to be our house". Well, you guessed it, they retracted their offer! Eric and I immediately put in our offer and waited. The sellers were hesitant to accept it because we had a contingency attached. We had to sell our house in town in order to get our mortgage approved.
It is absolutely amazing to see what stars align when something is just meant to be. Eric and I needed to sell our house in town so I took matters into my own hands and did what I knew how. I posted on my Facebook page if any of my friends were looking to buy a remodeled one bedroom with fenced in backyard downtown. 20 minutes... 20 minutes that's all it took to get a viewing set up. The following day we showed the house, the interested party immediately went to his bank and got an approval. OFFER ACCEPTED!
Lets fast forward through the roller coaster of this homebuying process... Our buyers bank delays, our buyers bank delays, contract extension, our buyers bank delays, I lost my job, our buyers bank delays, our seller declined our second extension, our seller accepted another offer, I said the words "They are going to retract, the house is meant to be ours", I got laughed at, that offer got retracted, our buyers came back to us, the stars aligned, I got a new job, our buyers bank got their information together, we sold our house, December 1, 2020 we signed on the purchase of "P Homestead". It happened, we did it!

Our dream home is a beautiful older farmhouse on ten acres. Three bedrooms, two baths, galley kitchen, two beautiful sunrooms, pellet stove in the living room and a formal dining room. The land is mostly empty with a few trees, some wetland and lots of room for growth. This is the adventure we are about to embark on and bring you along with. You will get to see us build our dream from the ground up. From building our soil to grow vegetables, to building a chicken coop to gather eggs, in the kitchen learning to ferment and cook healthy meals, even remodeling the home to make it more energy efficient.
I welcome you to P Homestead and I look forward to sharing our story with you. Please make yourself at home here and stay a while. Let the adventure begin!
